When you’re out and about exploring the vast, never-ending procedurally generated world in Minecraft, you may sometimes want to sleep for the night without resetting your spawn location. Luckily, straw beds have been introduced to help you with this problem, but since they weren’t always around, you may be unsure how to get them.
Straw beds are a great item to have on hand before you begin your next big adventure. They’re not too tough to get your hands on once you’re familiar with the process, so here’s how to get a straw bed in Minecraft.

Where to find straw bed in Minecraft
The only location where straw beds naturally spawn is in Abandoned Camps, a structure featured in the Wilderness Bound update. Because of this, the best way to get your hands on them is through crafting, as you can easily make straw beds at any crafting station yourself.
If you’re hoping to find an already made straw bed at an Abandoned Camp, you’ll have to go exploring to find this structure. They’re quite small and a bit rare, but they do spawn across many different biomes, including:

- Birch Forest
- Cherry Grove
- Dappled Forest
- Flower Forest
- Forest
- Meadow
- Old Growth Birch Forest
- Old Growth Pine Taiga
- Old Growth Spruce Taiga
- Pale Garden

- Sparse Jungle
- Swamp
- Taiga
- Windswept Forest
- Wooded Badlands
All Abandoned Camps are guaranteed to have at least one Straw Bed, so you’ll always find one by visiting these structures. Typically, though, they have at least two, so both you and a friend can visit one to rest up.
How to make straw bed in Minecraft
You can craft a straw bed at any crafting station using three hay bales. Place all three hay bales across the middle row of the table to make this item. Three hay bales make four straw beds, so you get quite a decent output each time you make this item. Hay bales can be found in villages or crafted using wheat.
How to use straw bed in Minecraft
You can use a straw bed by clicking on it just like you would a regular bed. The difference with this item, though, is that all straw beds are single-use. This means you can only sleep in each one once, and that it’ll break and vanish as soon as you’ve finished using it.
Straw beds also don’t reset your spawn point. Regular beds do, which can be annoying while traveling, as you may wish to spawn back at home while dying instead of losing your spawn point each time you place and sleep in a regular bed while you travel.
Although straw beds can only be used once, you can break these beds before you use them to store them away for later. This is helpful when you find straw beds out in the wild around Abandoned Camps, as you may not want to use them in the moment, but they might still come in handy later.
