Contaminated Metal and Stellar Ice are two different resources you can farm in No Man’s Sky, and each has its own uses. The resources have been added to the game as part of the Cosmos update, but they require different technology from what we have used so far.

How to farm Stellar Ice in No Man’s Sky
For starters, you’ll need to equip your Corvette-class starship with a Tractor Beam. This is brand-new part that’s available as part of the Cosmos update. You can obtain it for 350,000 credits and the required materials. The Tractor Beam allows you to get valuable resources from different types of debris.
Next, open your Star Chart map from the spaceship to find any planet that’s an Ice Field. It might happen that your current system might not have one; in that case, you’ll have to jump to another system.
Once you find the Ice Field, you’ll find several asteroids around it. Get out of your ship, and look for comets that are partly white and partly blue. They’re different from the surrounding asteroid parts. Once you find one, destroy the comets to get Stellar Geodes (don’t destroy the Geodes). Carry the Geodes back to your starship with the Gravitino Coil.
Next, head to a trading outpost, and then take the Stellar Geodes to processing. You’ll find your Condensed Stellar Ice via this method.
How to farm Contaminated Metal in No Man’s Sky
You’ll need to open your Star Chart map and look for Minor Wreckage that will have Space Junk as the signal type. Once you find the debris, you can use the Mining Tool to mine the salvage. Unlike Stellar Ice, you don’t have to bring Contaminated Metal back to the processor.
