How fast is the Wii U quick start menu?

It’ll save about 20 seconds

This week, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata gave his financial results briefing for the company’s fiscal year ended March 2014. A few updates stood out, like Skylanders-esque toys for 3DS and Wii U, but there’s also that Wii U quick start menu to think about. We had previously seen a mockup video of the faster system startup. Here’s the real thing in action.

This functionality will arrive in a system update currently planned to roll out in June. No, faster access to games is not what the Wii U really needs to sell better, and I don’t know that it’ll even help users understand the “appealing nature of the GamePad,” as Iwata says.

But time saved is time saved, and this’ll add up.
