It’s been over a decade now since the days when I considered myself a “hardcore” Counter-Strike player. Back in college in snowy St. Peter, Minnesota, it was pretty much the only thing my friends and I could do to entertain ourselves*. A dozen or so of us would hop on the network every night and rescue hostages, plant bombs, and escort the VIP to victory, all the while sending in-game chat messages detailing what we were going to do to each others’ mothers after every cheap no-scope kill or bunny hop escape. Hell, we even entered a LAN tournament once (where we promptly had our asses handed to us).
So for me, this week marked the return of Counter-Strike in a big way. Never much of a fan of CSS, my college buddies and I have been patiently awaiting the release of Global Offensive, hoping that it might recapture some of what was lost when we all graduated and moved on with our lives. Will it scratch that itch? It’s too early to tell. But one thing’s certain: I’ll be sending a whole lot of “your mother” text messages over the coming weeks as I find out.

New to FNF? Read this! Each week, a bunch of us Dtoiders get together to play videogames online! It’s a 100% community-run event, so feel free to join in or even host something yourself!
The planning for FNF starts in the forums, where community members sign up to host matches and post their pertinent details (game, time, Gamertag, etc.). Then, every Friday, reminder posts go up in the community blogs thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, and I recap it all here on the front page to give it a bit more exposure.
To join in, simply send a friend request to the match host! If you’d rather host something yourself, sound off in the comments section below!
