Feast on vids for Guild02’s Monsters Come Out on Friday

It’s like a Studio Ghibli take on kaiju movies

Of the three games announced as part of Level-5’s Guild02 lineup, Kaiju ga Deru Kinyoubi (“Monsters Come Out on Friday) sounded the most fascinating. A game in which you play as a boy in a small town turned upside-down by a sudden giant monster invasion — that premise alone should make you feel all gooey inside. Unfortunately, it didn’t appear on the list of Guild02 games receiving localization. Why the snub?

Our European bruddah suckling another cow’s udder, Daan Koopman, posted a huge batch of clips from Monsters Come Out on Friday, which arrived in the Japanese eShop just last week. After watching all of them, I can totally understand why Level-5 would skip such a game for a Western release. Not that I wouldn’t still want to play it, but I can see the logic.

Monsters Come Out on Friday seems more like a lifestyle experience than a true game. You walk around talking to townspeople, going to school, and hanging out with friends. The titular monsters don’t make an appearance until a good while later, and then you are only a more or less a spectator (though you do have some kind of connection). The most you ever actually do is play a collectible card game from time to time.

I still would like Level-5 to take a chance. The game looks so darn charming. See for yourself in the video dump below.
