[Update:  Speaking to IGN, Square Enix backpedaled, saying NX is only “under consideration.”]

Square Enix just officially announced Dragon Quest XI, the next mainline title in the publisher’s storied role-playing game franchise, for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Both versions of the game will share the same story, but look drastically different. Interestingly, the 3DS version sports two visual styles, with 3D art on the top screen and 2D sprites down below.

Toward the end of the presentation, Square Enix also confirmed the new title for NX, Nintendo’s mysterious next-generation platform, which won’t even be revealed until sometime next year.
