Dragon Quest VII 3DS sells nearly a million week 1

Yep, Dragon Quest is still popular

Oh no, you guys! Square Enix is slightly disappointed in Dragon Quest X‘s sales performance! Despite it’s clearly doing well, the MMO is not hitting whatever magical expectations SE set for it. I guess that means the DQ brand is now spiraling the drain, right? *BUZZ* Wrong!

The latest Media Create tracking numbers have been released, and the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII has sold 827,922 copies in its first week. The game’s initial shipment was a very Form 2 Frieza-esque one million, which means a nearly 83% sell-through rate and (I’m assuming) sell-outs in various outlets. This is biggest Japanese launch for a 3DS title overall, and the second largest launch for a DQ remake after DQVI on the DS.

So the status quo is maintained. Japan is still Dragon Quest land.
