Chocobo Racing returns to 3DS

Here’s something I’d never thought we would see again. Square Enix is developing a new Chocobo Racing game for the 3DS. Tenatively titled Chocobo Racing 3D, I assume it will consist largely of riding on the backs of chocobos in some sort of speed-oriented competition. But then there’s that screenshot of the girl who looks like she’s whacking a crystal with a hammer. Lord only knows what that could mean.

Chocobo Racing is one of my all-time favorite PlayStation One titles. On many a night, I would sit in my room with a friend of mine until the sun came up, ruthlessly cutting one another off, cursing and then devastating the opposition by a well-timed blast of Holy level 3. This is exciting news indeed.
