The number-one issue plaguing Dtoiders nowadays is a backlog. Even without the sales from Steam, PS Plus, or Xbox Live Gold, 2017 has been a big year for great games that attracted people to buy them while they’re hot, despite not having the free time to play them all the way through.

But once upon a time, during the Void Century, we had forums and we had the completed games challenge. Which is why I’m glad that Turbokill has brought about his own revival of sorts to the classic forum thread, the completed games of the year challenge!

It was especially brought to my attention, reading through Turbokill’s waxing nostalgic, that I was the sort of Dtoider who had played enough games to be mentioned in the same tier of recognition as Chris “Magnalon” Carter, or as I call him, “The Machine.” It still blows my mind that Chris is a perfectly normal, well-adjusted human being who consumes popular media and has a day job, yet plays through as many games as he does. So I guess I may have forgotten about my own gaming habits back then as well.

Back in the forums, we had badges to act as street cred or e-peen. If you completed 25 games within a year, you got a badge of Captain N’s handsome face on your profile. In the last year of the forums’ existence, we introduced the 50 games completed in a year badge, which pictured a very tired and sad Shinya Arino. I was skilled enough to achieve both badges, but now with Turbokill’s revival, it goes without saying that this is strictly about bragging right among each other.

Be sure to check out Turbokill’s cblog, Community Completed Games, A Destructoid CCG, and participate. He updates the leaderboards weekly, and I’ll be sure to hop into the madness soon myself.
