Animal Crossing: New Leaf is kind of a big deal. The Nintendo 3DS exclusive has sold more than four million units in Japan to date and is already off to a hot start in North America in its first week on the market.

“The digital version of the game set a new record for launch day sales in the Nintendo eShop,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata proclaimed to analysts at E3 this week. “And sales of Nintendo 3DS hardware were nearly four times greater than the previous week.” Iwata calls the title’s success “crucial for the future of Nintendo 3DS” in the West. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is set to arrive on European shores tomorrow.
