Age of Mythology is getting a new expansion: Tale of the Dragon

13 years after release… sort of

It’s not every day you see a 13-year-old game get an expansion, is it? Well that’s sort of what’s happening to Age of Mythology: The Extended Edition with Tale of the Dragon.

Technically, the Extended Edition actually only came out last year and so it isn’t really the “13-year-old game” the announcement blog post is claiming it is, but it’s still not every day HD remakes get brand new content, so I’ll allow it.

Developers SkyBox Labs and Forgotten Empires already have a history in developing expansions for much older games. They were also behind The Forgotten expansion for the HD re-release of Age of Empires 2, and that was 14 years after the original game.

Other than the fact it exists, there’s not a whole lot we’ll know about Tale of the Dragon until a livestream on October 2, where the developers will reveal all. They’re really dragon this announcement out…

I’m going to hazard a guess (and stop me if this is too out of nowhere) that it will borrow from Eastern mythology, as opposed to the core game’s Greek influences. I don’t know why I think that, just a hunch.
