We haven’t heard anything from Nicalis about their forthcoming 3DS/Wii U/and-maybe-other-consoles title Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes in a while. That’s probably because they’ve been busy with stuff like Ikachan, Guxt, Raven, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and other unannounced projects.

Looks like 1,001 Spikes is still in the works though. The level editor appears to be in full effect, and according to Nicalis President Tyrone Rodriguez, “is packing so much new content”. Along with the new playable characters, modes, and multi-player, 1,001 Spikes is promising to be everything one could want from an “adventure and die” videogame experience.

Though the promise of having new levels to play via fan elbow grease is exciting, what I’m really hoping for is a character editor. I really want to make a little Aban-style version of me that throws Gamecubes and stays happy even when murdered. Wait, I already did that, but it would be even better if I could put little Aban Holmeskins in the actual game, along with some custom made sprites of my pals.

With or without these dream features, 1,001 Spikes is sure to be a horribly fun time. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more on its imminent release.
