PlayStation Move control for PC? Move Server comes to GDC

Recommended Videos

Sony has plans to take their PlayStation Move technology and stick it on your PC. I’ll tell you right know that I’d use it for surfing on a home theater PC. That would be fantastic. But they want to do more with this motion sensing tech than surf porn sites on a 60″ TV, so they’re showing off their Move Server for PC at GDC next month.

Sony’s GDC panel, Update on PlayStation Move development, is where you’ll want to be to see what this Move Server for PC is all about. The write-up on the GDC schedule says this about the panel:

We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs.

It sounds like Sony wants to get in on some of that homebrew action that Kinect has been seeing. Previous demonstrations of Move tech at GDC have shown me that there’s some powerful stuff at work here, and that there’s lots of opportunities for new applications. This is a great move on Sony’s part. Hopefully they’ll have some demonstrations at this panel we can check out.
