When Lumines first arrived, it was considered a vanguard title for the brand new (at the time) PlayStation Portable. The rhythmic block busting puzzler was excellent, and really helped the PSP to stand out. With that in mind, you’d think the game would have been on the PlayStation Network ages ago.
Developer Q-Games has now revealed why PSPgo owners can’t play one of the biggest and most important PSP games on the market, stating that music licensing and publishers have gotten in the way. Apparently they’re still looking into it, but legal sticky fingers are making it look unlikely that Lumines will be on PSN any time soon.
“We would love to bring Lumines/Lumines II to the PSN store,” states Q, on Twitter, where everybody does their speaking now. “But there are complications, music licensing, was published by Namco, etc. … That said, we’re obviously looking into it.”
As of right now, the PSN is missing a number of PSP titles, meaning that Sony’s latest and most expensive PSP doesn’t have access to a full game library unlike the significantly cheaper PSP 3000, which can play everything. It seems the move to a digital era is truly going to be a long way off, if legal issues and slapdash implementation are to be the overriding factors.
