Project Origin gets F.E.A.R. 2 tacked on to its name

It appears that the game once known as Project Origin is now being titled F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Funny story this one: back when the game was first announced, the name “F.E.A.R.” was owned by Sierra, who published the first title in the series. When Warner Bros. Interactive acquired the game’s developer Monolith, they owned the rights to the game’s universe, but not its moniker. They had one choice — hold a contest and have fans name the game.

Well, that wasn’t enough, apparently: with Sierra’s future in question, Warner Bros. recently swooped in and re-acquired the rights to the “F.E.A.R.” branding. So there you have it, we can start officially calling Project Origin F.E.A.R. 2. Makes things a bit easier on us, and likely will be less confusing to consumers.

I had a chance to get a demo of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin back at E3 and it was looking pretty slick. I mean slick with blood, of course — things, including bodies, were exploding left and right. I liked what I saw; it’s too bad the game — set to hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, has had its released delayed until February 10, 2009.
