BioWare is shutting down all its forums outside of Star Wars: The Old Republic

Mass Effect and Dragon Age are gone

If you frequent the BioWare forums, you better sit down.

Over the weekend, the publisher explained that everything outside of the Star Wars: The Old Republic forums will be shut down. That includes Mass Effect, Dragon Age — everything. The closure is expected to roll out on August 26, and will transition into read-only capabilities until October 25. So if you have some awesome enlightening post about the ending to Mass Effect 3, back it up before that latter date.

The reason behind the closure? They can give you information by way of events, and social networks anyway. It’s an increasing trend — why encourage an open discussion in an area where people can disagree with it when you can just completely control the message on your own terms?

BioWare is such a weird company. It’s still capable of doing great things (just look at Dragon Age III), but it is clearly under the thumb of EA and has streamlined its games so much that the studio barely resembles its original state.

All eyes are on Mass Effect: Andromeda.
