Animal Crossing: New Leaf is getting a massive amiibo-based update this year

Splatoon content teased too

Later this year, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is getting a huge patch that adds amiibo compatibility. To be clear, the update seems to support both amiibo cards (there’s a picture of scanning a card and having the neighbor move in) and figures, with the entire Animal Crossing line listed.

There’s also a tease for animals that look like Callie and Marie from Splatoon (as well as a squid-themed house) — if I had to bet, it would be linked to the newly minted figures that were just released of the duo. Right now the new content is only listed on the Japanese site.

As a reminder, New Leaf launched in Japan in 2012 and it’s still getting updates.
