Are you DOWN with that?
Back when Nintendo thought the 3D part of the 3DS was a marketable, they promised that we’d all be watching 3D movies on the thing all the time and everyday. While there are a few cool shows like Bee and Puppycat on Nintendo Video, and Netflix and Youtube run on the console just fine, I think it’s fair to say that 3D video playback is far from the 3DS’s killer application.
Maybe that will change when the New 3DS comes around. With an improved 3D display and better processing power, it’s much more capable 3D video player, but in the end it all comes down what the install base wants. Are the people who care enough about gaming to buy this mid-generation upgrade also the people who really want to watch Up again, but this time on a 3D handheld? In the past I would have said “not a chance”, but I also would have never guessed that normcore would take off, so I stopped saying that forever.
