Suda51: The games matter, not the platform

Quirky game developer offers clarity and praises indie games

In this hurricane of emotions and hype during the release of the next-gen consoles, it’s easy to get caught up in fandom and want to stick with what you know most. Because of this, Suda51 spoke his mind about the current situation, and why people should try to play more games outside of the big brands and what they’re normally used to.

In a talk with GamesIndustry International, Suda51 explains how at the end of the day, the games are what matter. “I guess what’s more important is the video game itself and not the platform it’s on, and I think it’s really important to be able to have the chance to play all kinds of different games — not just mega AAA titles but indie games too.”

He also offers some praise and confidence towards indie development. “You know, indie games are not necessarily poorly made, I think nowadays we are shifting towards the era where you get to play all kinds of different games of different sizes — but they are all equally as good.”

It’s definitely a good thing to try and broaden your horizons. While the console drama over the last year has left some people disinterested, it’s important to know that there’s always going to be games coming. The last decade has certainly shown us that good games can exist even on platforms you’d least expect.
