Ubisoft believes it is ‘well-positioned’ for next-gen

Excited for ‘connected’ and ‘social’ experiences

Speaking to IGN, Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat stated that the company “can’t wait” for the new Microsoft and Sony consoles to arrive. “As far as being creative and showing what our studios can do, I think Ubisoft is well-positioned. For us, next-gen will definitely be connected experiences, but also social experiences, more immersive, and more interactive.”

Continuing, Mallat praised Sony for its work on the PlayStation 4: “We definitely share the same visions. In terms of opportunities, I would say that there is a great momentum on everything that revolves already around the consumer’s way of spending his entertainment time. This is good news for us. Of course, every transition, every new machine, every new system, brings new opportunities for being more creative and for showing what a studio can do.”

Of course, it’s one thing to have the staff and capable tech — in this case, Far Cry 3‘s Dunia engine and Assassin’s Creed‘s Anvil Next engine — but there’s also the matter of strategy. Selling some of us on “connected experiences” is going to be an uphill battle — and not just for Ubisoft. That said, we only have Watch Dogs and these occasional quotes to go on right now, so we’ll see.
