While Sony has been flaunting PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for the past few months, Nintendo has been oddly quiet with their own Super Smash Bros. Well not anymore. In fact, they dropped a bomb and revealed that Namco Bandai is now the developer behind the next Smash Bros games for the Wii U and 3DS.
That’s all Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series was ready to reveal. As it turns out, Nintendo actually announced the project before “actual development” had started last year, so we’re going to have to wait a little while longer until we can see anything of the new games. Sakurai at least seems pretty confident in how Namco is handling the project, stating that it “looks pretty good” and “it’s working great.”
On the Namco side, we can expect Masaya Kobayashi, Yoshito Higuchi of the Tales series, Tetsuya Akatsuka of the Gundam: Extreme Vs series all behind the projects. Plus, the art and sound director behind the SoulCalibur and the main development team behind Tekken all are working on the project too.
Masaya feels pretty confident in the Namco team, stating “all the top creators from Namco Bandai are gathered here to create a never-before-seen dream team for this project. We will fully utilize our experience and knowledge in action/fighting game development, technical capability, and organizational strength, and we hereby promise you that we will develop the best and most powerful “Super Smash Bros.” title ever!”
