TimeSplitters 4 gets its own ‘100,000 Strong’ movement

We know that TimeSplitters 4 is not in development, but perhaps that can change. Fans have put together a Facebook campaign dubbed “100,000 Strong for TimeSplitters 4” in an attempt to drum up support for a potential follow-up game.

The fact that it has to come to this is rather disappointing, if you ask me, but such is the world of publishing videogames. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli took to Twitter to determine how large the TimeSplitters community is, prompting the aforementioned initiative. So, this could theoretically have an impact.

I wish the group the best of luck, since TimeSplitters 2 is one of my absolute favorite games. While a new installment could stand out in the genre, I’m afraid that TS4 — should it ever happen — simply wouldn’t live up to expectations. As painful as it is to be cynical about this, I feel like the time for it has come and gone, to some extent. For instance, do we really want a free-to-play version?

All that said, I would adore getting either TS2 or Future Perfect on digital distribution platforms in the same vein as Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. Or, hell, even just any new shooter that offers a similarly absurd amount of in-game content and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Is that too much to ask for?
