Kickstarter scandal time! Little Monster accused of scam

It was going to happen. The moment Double Fine made headlines with its Kickstarter project, an invisible timer had been set, counting down to the inevitable crowdfunding scandals. Little Monster Productions is up for the chopping block, accused of plagiarism and attempting to scam users.

Mythic: The Story of Gods and Men was an RPG intended to blend gameplay from The Elder Scrolls and World of Warcraft. It had been mostly funded through traditional means, but the studio claimed it needed $80,000 to meet its needs. After creeping $5,000 closer to its goals, users began to recognize the game’s concept art.

It turns out artwork and assets had been cribbed from a number of other projects and websites, the revelation forcing Little Monsters to close its Kickstarter and Facebook page. Interestingly, the studio still denies any wrongdoing.

“… It seems we have been subjected to false claims of ownership right to our concepts. The game itself is well in progress and is NOT a scam of any kind,” said the studio.

Since the Kickstarter was shut down, anybody who donated won’t be charged. Meanwhile, let’s start counting down to the next big scandal!
