When Nintendo announced the new 3DS XL last week, the Nubageddon foretold by YouTube users and backseat videogame industry analysts everywhere was officially averted… for now. While that came as good news to current 3DS owners who weren’t looking forward to feeling “forced” to buy a really new version of the console, others who love that double nub couldn’t help but cry fowl.
Thankfully, Nintendo has those nub lovers covered. They’ll be releasing a gigantic version of the Circle Pad Pro later this year that will be compatible with the soon-to-be-released 3DS XL. I can only imagine how huge that will make the console. No word on pricing, battery life, or other details.
It’s asking a lot of a fully decked-out 3DS owner to say they should buy another 3DS and another Circle Pad Pro, but this much should be great news for those of you who were looking forward to playing Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil: Revelations, Monster Hunter, and the other handful of Circle Pad Pro-compatible 3DS games on a bigger screen. Personally, I’m glad that the “core” 3DS is still a single nub experience. It would be terrible if dual nub became the 3DS standard, leaving all those mono-nub kids out there disregarded, lost in the cold.
