Despite the industry’s perpetual felching of 3D’s chocolate squinter, Nintendo believes that the technology has not yet hit the mainstream. Never fear, however, for the 3DS will be the first “mass market” 3D product on the market. According to Nintendo’s beefburger boss, anyway.

“Consumers have a limited amount of time every day to invest in entertainment. Therefore we’ve got to bring out more compelling entertainment experiences than what others are doing,” says Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime. “… Right now, 3D is not mass-market. In our view, Nintendo 3DS will be the first mass-market 3-D device.”

Reggie claims that the 3DS is in a “category of one” since there aren’t any other devices like it (at least yet). He also believes that the 3D camera technology and the social gaming opportunities will put the 3DS ahead in the market.

Well, I’ve got my one preordered already, so it must be doing something right. You reserved one yet or are you just not bothering?
