Criminal Girls' sexual punishment will only be mildly censored

A lot of people were upset after NIS America announced it had "edited certain aspects" of Criminal Girls: Invite Only for Western release. The "c" word (censorship) was thrown around nobly as it always seems to be w...

Natural Doctrine is a brutal, sort of ugly turn-based strategy game photo
Natural Doctrine is a brutal, sort of ugly turn-based strategy game
by Steven Hansen

Sure, Natural Doctrine doesn't look great (well, the environments; it does look better in miniature on the Vita). It's a far cry from director Atsushi Ii's gorgeous minimalism in Patapon.

But Kadokawa Games' first internal venture can get a pass for looking a bit dated if the core gameplay can hold up, and it just might. Producer Kensuke Tanaka felt that JRPGs were "lacking in difficulty," that they didn't "make you think," NIS America representatives explained. Natural Doctrine is an answer to that.

However, NIS America was not able to answer why exactly the lead in a fantasy RPG of orcs, magic and lizard men is named Jeff.

The Awakened Fate Ultimatum forces you to choose which girl you want to save

The Guided Fate Paradox was a serviceable role-playing game that I enjoyed when I reviewed it at Japanator, but I had no idea there would be a sequel at any point, let alone one that would be localized. NIS America has annou...

NIS takes us to an island paradise, battles us, then travels back in time

NIS was a bit of a hidden treasure at E3. The publisher shared a booth with Atlus and it took me stopping and actually looking at what was on display at the demo station to put two and two together. The search was well worth it because I was rewarded with a closer look at three upcoming titles: Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited, and Natural Doctrine.

Review: Demon Gaze photo
Review: Demon Gaze
by Dale North

I'm a dungeon crawler at heart, so any game that throws me into the pits and makes me claw my way out is a good time on at least some level. Difficulty? Unforgiving systems? Bring it on. For me, just about any grind is an enjoyable grind.

But even as a diehard genre fan, PS Vita dungeon crawler Demon Gaze tried my patience and resolve.

Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4 Vita dated for the west photo
Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4 Vita dated for the west
by Steven Hansen

Earlier today, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair got a release date for North American Vitas: September 2. I still need to play the first.

Anyway, more Japanese games have western release dates. Compile Heart's RPG Fairy Fencer F is coming on September 23. The loli characters come from the Hyperdimension Neptunia artist, but the games' gods were designed by Final Fantasy's Yoshitaka Amano. Plus, Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) did the music.

Meanwhile, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited -- a touched up, additional content (plus old DLC) version of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten -- is coming on August 12. Good fit the Vita.
