Sorry America and Europe, no Diablo III microtransactions for you

Blizzard has revealed that their upcoming 2.2.0 patch for Diablo III will include microtransactions. However there's a catch: It won't apply to the Americas or EU regions. So, I guess that leaves everyone else to milk that Di...

Heroes of the Storm entering into closed beta this week

100% Series Retrospective: Diablo photo
100% Series Retrospective: Diablo
by Chris Carter

Things have been crazy at Destructoid since I became the Reviews Director. On my first week, I had to tackle a new Ratchet & Clank, Super Mario 3D World, and three other games. It hasn't let up after that, and as a result, I haven't had as much time to focus on my Carter's Quest series.

Thankfully though I am often able to incorporate assignments into other works, and since playing a ton of Reaper of Souls on PS4 last month I decided to tackle its predecessors yet again. The Diablo series is among my most-played franchises, so it was an easy adventure to take.

Microsoft worked with Blizzard to get Diablo III to 1080p on Xbox One

I had a chance to test out Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition on the PS4 and it's pretty fantastic. At a cool 1080p and 60fps the game runs great, but on the Xbox One, it wasn't always that way. To upgrade to 1080p from 9...

Diablo III's Ultimate Evil Edition makes the core game a must-play for console owners photo
Diablo III's Ultimate Evil Edition makes the core game a must-play for console owners
by Chris Carter

Diablo III has had a tumultuous history to say the least. Always-online DRM, the Real-Money Auction House, and loot problems plagued the original release -- all issues that took months to address. It's a hot-button issue even now, with many gamers stating that the PC players were had, paying for a "demo" of the console version that would eventually drop with all the fixes in tow.

For those of you who did enjoy the game previously or haven't gotten caught up in the maelstrom of problems though, the Reaper of Souls expansion delivered in just about every way possible. Thankfully, the Ultimate Evil Edition brings that same great experience to consoles.

Remembering the glory of videogame manuals photo
Remembering the glory of videogame manuals
by Brittany Vincent

When I was a little girl, purchasing a new game often meant thumbing through the pages of a mammoth tome detailing impending gameplay down to the letter. If I were stuck on a long car trip with a recently-purchased title, digging into that precious parcel and retrieving the manual was the first thing on my mind. Sometimes, starting a fresh new game was only the icing on top of the delicious packaging sundae, and I was decidedly more interested in getting at the extras than actually tearing into Diablo II or Creatures.

It was a way to game vicariously through a few simple, innocent pages, and one of the first ties I established to any game I had my heart set on playing through. Unfortunately, it’s also a familiar constant that gamers new and old can kiss goodbye with the decision a majority of companies employ to downsize the distribution of manuals entirely.
