Zelda: Breath of the Wild in Google maps street view form? Yes

Breath of the Wild works well with a Google system

A reader turned me on to this Zelda: Breath of the Wild Google maps street view project and I’ve been fiddling with it all morning.

Created by Nassim’s Software, the interface will be very familiar for those of you who mess with Google maps. It has minimalistic zoom options, as well as a full overview of the world of Hyrule. But it also has a secret weapon compared to many other fan-created maps: street view.

Yep! If there’s a pin on the map you can click on it and get a 360-degree view of the land, sometimes with the ability to move around if there’s a linked area. Nassim’s Software actually managed to capture those zones manually with in-game screens.

I can actually see using this software in tandem with playing the game in future years. There are so many instances of Breath of the Wild telling you to go to some named area, and if you aren’t keen on using objective markers constantly (free form exploration is so fun in repeat plays), it’s easy to lose your way. But with the Breath of the Wild Google map companion, everything is marked up so you can kind of chart your own path.

If you want more info on how to use the system and how it was created via equirectangular images, there’s a video from Nassim’s Software below. The gist? They used a modded Wii U version to capture everything.
