You can now use PayPal on Nintendo’s Switch, 3DS, and Wii U eShop

But it might not work cross-region

Nintendo has started rolling out PayPal options for the 3DS, Switch, and Wii U eShop, which will join point cards and credit cards. Note, however, that the publisher explains that not all regions will converse with one another — in other words, even though the eShop is technically region free, you may need a credit card or even a point card for a specific region to actually spend money. That same concept rings true for PayPal.

It’s a weird, annoying limitation, but the workaround thankfully isn’t too stressful. What’s still very annoying is Nintendo’s spotty history with backward compatibility and transfers for digital purchases for their consoles — or even full account recovery if you happen to lose your console or portable (which is even easier to do now that the Switch can be taken anywhere).
