Xbox One can do ‘nothing’ until patch is installed

Get ready to wait on Christmas morning

We already knew that the Xbox One was going to have a patch on day one, so will the PlayStation 4. While the PlayStation 4 will let you start playing games while the patch downloads, the Xbox One will be useless.

The guys over at Engadget were talking with Albert Penello, the Senior Director of Product Management at Microsoft, and when asked what the Xbox One will do “out of the box,” Albert responded with “Nothing. You need the day one update.”

So basically, if you have a PlayStation 4 you can start gaming right away, and if you have an Xbox One you’ll have to connect it to the internet and take care of the patch first. Hopefully the patch process on the Xbox One isn’t too much of a hassle, or there could be some angry people on November 22.
