Xbox Game Pass subscriptions have surged in the past five months

User base see 50% increase to 15 million subs

Xbox Game Pass has seen a huge increase in users in the past five months. The paid subscription service has been bolstered by a 50% increase of its user base, boosting its total subscriber count from 10 million to 15 million in less than half a year.

There are several factors that contribute towards this surge in Game Pass interest. Firstly, gaming revenue in general has increased as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic keeps much of the global populace indoors. Secondly, as we approach the dawning of a new generation, there will be gaming fans who are buying into the Game Pass service ahead of time, securing their subscription as they await the launch of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S hardware. Third, a lot of people jumped on board once the news hit that the introductory price was being “retired.”

But perhaps simplest of all, Xbox Game Pass is just a very attractive prospect. The Gold version of the service offers a huge catalogue of great titles, for both PC and console, at a relatively modest price. This service includes major releases and fan-favourite titles such as Resident Evil 7, Bloodstained, Crusader Kings III, Destiny 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and many more.

Given the recent news that the EA Play catalogue is to be added to the Game Pass service this holiday season – at no extra charge – it almost seems a no-brainer for PC and Xbox owners not to jump on-board, giving themselves access to a ready-to-go library of great games for a low monthly cost.
