Windrose has become an overnight sensation in the early part of 2026, and the developers at Kraken Express already have some updates lined up that will add new content to the game.

The major highlight of this content expansion is the Ashlands biome, which is said to be a high-level region of the map. Aside from that small tidbit, the developers didn’t go into more details.

However, what Kraken Express did relay is that it is taking its time with this update and every other update that is planned for Windrose. In a post to the game’s Steam Community page, Kraken Express stated that it will have more details about the Ashlands update within the next month or two.

The developers said that they are “populating [the update] with our own plans and some popular requests, and then, as it always is with game development, we will sit down and cut out some of the stuff to make it actually deliverable.”

Following that statement, the post says players shouldn’t expect the Ashlands update until roughly six months from now. While that sounds like quite a long time for a major update to a game in early access, Kraken Express went into more detail about its philosophy with Windrose’s future content.

The developers want to “enrich the current gameplay systems, instead of only adding new biomes with the respective content.” So, from the sounds of that, the Ashlands update won’t only add a new biome, but it will come with core updates to the entire game as well. The devs ended the community post by saying they want to make meaningful changes that match the quality of the game’s current state, but this extra ambition takes more time.

For the time being, though, the developers plan to release a small update this week or possibly next week. This update will, hopefully, solve some nagging issues that players have been reporting since launch. Among these fixes are high CPU usage when Windrose is idle, connectivity problems, and performance improvements. The update will also include over 40 new building pieces players can use while base-building, as well as over 50 smaller quality-of-life changes to make your life smoother in Windrose.

Due to the nature of the update, which will also try to fix the Steam Cloud saving problem, the developers mentioned writing down any settings you want to save, as the update could reset them once it is released and downloaded.
