Good morning, good day, good weekend, and welcome to Whatcha Been Playing? December is officially upon us, even though January was just five weeks ago. But the cold chill in both the air and my aging bones tell me that, most assuredly, the winter beckons. Hoo boy. The month will bring us The Game Awards, Destructoid’s GOTY nominations, the holidays, and a lot of Slow News Day reporting on Japanese shmups and re-released PSP RPGs… As if that’s a bad thing. I hope that this weekend finds you all super well, and that you’re staying safe, warm, and wrapped up against the elephants elements. Be sure to get some rest this weekend, and if you’re working, make the free time that you do have count.

We’ve reached the end of 2021’s major release schedule. And this week saw me hit what will be, essentially my final review of the year Heart Machine’s sublime Solar Ash. While I found it a mostly above-average title, it seems that many of you are still on board to grind its neon beams, I’m thankful for this. Solar Ash is not a bad game, simply a very agreeable one. I only want people to enjoy the games they buy, so I hope you do. In the meantime, I’ve been playing ININ Games’ Clockwork Aquario, a long-lost arcade platformer that saw its eventual release last week, 30 years late to the party. Keep an eye out for my thoughts on this classic cutie this coming week! Best of all, it doesn’t cost me 20p a credit. That’s progress.

Before you all get stuck into your first weekend of 2021’s final month, please take a minute to jump into the comments and share with us, the community, Whatcha Been Playing? Whether you’re cramming for the end-of-year awards, hiding away from the cold with some familiar favorites, or just bouncing between a roster of good and bad games, give us the good word either way. We — that’s me, Destructoid, and the rest of your fellow readers — love hearing about your good times, and everybody is welcome, so join in the party below. Let’s warm our hearts with gaming goodness.

Have a wonderful weekend, from all of us at Destructoid.
