Weekly Geek’s Furniss cannibalizes game boxes for the sake of art

Chris Furniss is a monster. You might know him as a frequent guest on Podtoid, friend of the site and lord and master of the Weekly Geek Show, but I’m about to introduce to you a darker side of Furniss, a side that — God help me, I must find courage to type these words — ripped apart a beautiful collection of GBA game boxes to make art. Such tragedy! Such horror! Such — oh, screw it, I’ll let him explain. From his post on Weekly Geek

This is a piece entitled “Obsessed” that I did as part of my degree back in 2005. It was a combination digital/analog piece, with two parts. The first part is the painting/collage, comprised of all my Game Boy Advance game boxes and manuals I had saved up over the years. I am a compulsive box-saver, and it was quite the sacrifice to cut them all up, I tell you what.

Sure, it looks pretty damn cool, but think of all those game boxes that would’ve had swell homes with me. Anyway, if you’re intrigued or want to see the collage in its full glory, go check it out at his site. And if the appeal of the wholesale murder of beautiful game packaging for art gets your motor running, you can even bid on it on eBay. Savages!
