VizionEck wants you to rethink first-person shooters

Throwing out the baby, the bath water, and everything in the room

I had the most confused look on my face watching this video of VizionEck, a nontraditional first-person shooter game for PlayStation 4. It feels weird to even call it an FPS.

We previously saw an abstract teaser trailer that made little sense and despite the fact that what’s shown here is a “Ranger vs. Ranger” match with four players — actual in-game footage, in other words — I’m still left wondering what’s going on. Thankfully, there’s an in-depth gameplay explanation from VizionEck (which the developer’s name, too).

After reading that, I’m still trying to wrap my head around VizionEck (the game). Perhaps it’s one of those titles you just need to learn for yourself through trial and error. “VizionEck seems complex because it is different. This is the first game of its kind so most concepts need to be explained in detail. However, when it comes to playing, gameplay comes naturally.”

It’s nice to see innovation in the genre, but there’s a whole lot of new going on here.
