Marty O’Donnell’s bid for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District ended in disappointment—for Marty—as he’s one of many Republican candidates who got swept away by a massive blue wave that kept Democratic incumbent Susie Lee’s seat after a 20-percent margin of victory.

You may not recognize Marty’s name, but chances are you’re familiar with his work. He served as Bungie’s main composer for over two decades, responsible for Destiny‘s soundtrack and, more importantly, Halo’s hauntingly beautiful main theme. Unfortunately, this really is a prime candidate for separating the art from the artist.

What crushed Marty O’Donnell’s campaign?

The first possibility is that Marty had received a glowing endorsement from Donald Trump shortly before the election.

Unfortunately for O’Donnell, he was gunning for Nevada, a district that was greatly impacted by Trump’s unwavering stance on tariffs, so maybe that’s not the guy you want to seem very well connected to at that point. Still, there are other equally important reasons to point out, like the fact that O’Donnell is reportedly not someone you want close, or even “looming” around, especially if you’re a woman.

A few of his ex-colleagues have talked about prior experiences, none of them good. The scariest part, however, is that Marty might already be so familiar with these situations that he’s already devised a game plan.

When talking about a particularly infamous event at a Bungie Halloween party, Marty said, “Yes, the women got really creeped out but I made sure to never touch anyone, just loom.”

Oh, and that’s all after he’d become a pioneer in appropriating Halo imagery to bastardize it with AI to create anti-immigration propaganda.

After her tremendous victory, Susie Lee likely destroyed any horcruxes Marty likely still had lying around by tagging him in a tweet showing a viral video where a bunch of school kids perform a surprisingly beautiful rendition of the Halo theme inside a bathroom. The video fades to black with the message “the fight is finished.”

I usually prefer when winners celebrate with grace and avoid teabagging their enemies, but Susie and so many others have been through so much crap because of “MartyTheElder” that I just cannot condemn anyone for double-tapping the guy.

As for Marty himself, well, he’d previously stated that he never really wanted to be a politician in the first place, so, if we’re to take his words for it, then everyone’s all the better for this result. Yes, even the people who cannot stop talking about how you shouldn’t be mixing politics with video games.
