God of War Laufey has been delayed out of its initial release date, meaning there’s one less thing to look forward to in February this upcoming year.
Originally set to drop on Feb. 16, 2027, the spinoff starring Kratos’ wife and powerful warrior (and mother of Atreus) will now launch on May 20, 2027, giving Sony Santa Monica a few months of time for polish and further development.

“Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen,” Sony Santa Monica said on Twitter/X today. “We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.”
After leaks pointed to a new God of War game from the studio that brought us Ragnarok, Sony announced Laufey at the end of this year’s June State of Play, with a release date around nine months out. Now, it’ll be closer to a year, but if it helps the game launch in its best state possible, then it’ll be worth it.
“We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential,” the studio said. “On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!”
I’ve been interested in this game since its debut, because the new aerial layer that Laufey adds to the combat introduced in the Norse reboot series looks like a blast. And considering that this game deals with the “afterlife of the gods” and Kratos has already been confirmed, I’m excited to see what kind of big implications it may have for the future of the franchise.
