Pledges ongoing support for Kinect, SmartGlass, and the cloud

Announced today at the Build Conference in San Francisco, Microsoft and Unity are partnering to bring the Unity game engine to all Microsoft platforms, including Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Unity Pro 4-licensed developers can save $1,500 by getting a free license for the “Windows Store Add-on,” which provides support for Windows Store and Windows Phone 8 apps, later this summer. Additionally, developers who make games published by Microsoft Studios will receive free tools for both Xbox platforms. Unity says it will work on incorporating features like Kinect, SmartGlass, the cloud, and multiplayer matchmaking.

A step in the right direction, I suppose, but not the “Microsoft supports self-publishing news” I was hoping would come out of Build.
