The Big Bad Wolf is back on the streets of New York, and he looks shinier and more shaded than ever in The Wolf Among Us Remastered. The game, released today, can be purchased for around $15 if you already own the original.
The Wolf Among Us Remastered officially launched today, Oct. 29. It completely revitalizes the original title, maintaining its art style and gameplay but simply adding more to it. Where there were two shading strokes, there are now twenty, and where lighting was stiff, it’s now properly implemented. In places where assets were reused, completely original ones were made to keep every environment unique, fresh and evocative.
For example, in the 2013 edition, TWAU used the same wooden walls for every building, but in this new iteration Bigby’s apartment halls are tidy and equipped with beautiful tapestries—that is, until you get to his own doors, which are derelict and falling apart at the seams. This immediately tells you something of Bigby, of his careless attitude and lack of self-respect. The environment itself speaks, and this is just one case out of many, many incredible additions.

I played the remaster back in August during Gamescom and wrote about it in our special newsletter, but now the full thing is here and available for everyone to enjoy. And believe me when I say that it’s possibly the best remaster I’ve ever seen, which sacrifices not one bit of the first game but merely improves it in meaningful ways. And when you put them side by side, you can see the stark difference in quality, even if the core of the game remains intact.
A lot of cut content was restored, too, but not forced into the main game, and you can play it separately as part of the remaster’s deleted scenes segment. There are quite a few possible outcomes and moments that never made it into the main story, so be sure to give them a spin.
If you own TWAU already, the remaster is up for grabs for $15, though the offer is only available until Nov. 12.
