In what will be very happy news for Sonic the Hedgehog fans, voice actor Colleen O’Shaughnessey has confirmed that she will be voicing The Blue Blur’s adorable buddy Miles “Tails” Prower in upcoming movie sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In addition, Paramount Pictures released a new poster for the film and teased a trailer for The Game Awards 2021.

Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure,” wrote O’Shaughnessey on Twitter. “Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower in #SonicMovie2! Can’t wait for y’all to see him on the big screen.”

A veteran actor of film, anime, and video games, O’Shaughnessy first voiced Sonic’s earnest-but-reliable sidekick in 2014 release Sonic Boom and its accompanying TV series. Since then, the actor has portrayed Tails in 2016’s Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympic Games, 2017’s Sonic Forces, and most recently in 2019’s Team Sonic Racing. Fans will be understandably pleased to hear O’Shaughnessey’s recognizable tone for Tails’ cinematic adventure, given that both Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles received all-new voice actors in the form of Ben Schwartz and Idris Elba, respectively.

Following on from its legendary reveal controversy and associated delay, Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog eventually premiered in February 2020 to resounding success. The film returned over $300 million USD in worldwide box office receipts, before going on to find even further success on the home market just a month later. Sonic the Hedgehog would go on to become the sixth highest-grossing movie of 2020, receiving mostly positive reviews from critics and fans.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters April 8, 2022. The new trailer will debut during tomorrow’s The Game Awards 2021 live stream. The event will kick off at 17:00 PT / 20:00 ET.
