Street Fighter 6 video includes nostalgia costumes and new stage

Ryu now feels odd WITHOUT his beard?

The Japanese Street Fighter 6 Twitter account has released a short video, ostensibly focusing on the upcoming fighter’s new “Battle Damag”e feature ā€” Sneakily, however, the clip also gives us our first look at a brand new stage, as well as a handful of characters’ classic, or “nostalgia”, costumes.

Kicking things off, we see Family Man Guile in his old-school, Street Fighter II combat fatigues, squaring off against the Big Red Pants of The Iron Body, Zangief. Later on in the video, we also see Chun-Li, in the split dress that made her a superstar, battling a white Gi-wearing Ryu. Curiously, after not sporting a beard and moustache for literal decades, Street Fighter‘s original poster boy now looks practically naked without one.

Also of note, the same sequence that sees Ryu and Chunners duking it out takes place on a brand new stage, which appears to be a beautiful, ornate arena, set seemingly within a palace of some sort. It’s similar to the sort of over-indulgence seen in some of the Capcom Pro Tour stages of Street Fighter V, except without all the cartoonish idiots dancing away in the background.

Of course, we are still yet to discover quite how nostalgia costumes will fit into the Street Fighter 6 plan. Will they be day one DLC? or will Capcom follow my suggestions, (not implying that they, in fact, have), and make the nostalgia costumes unlockable upon the completion of Arcade Mode? This latter option will at least offer players a smart reward for their efforts, far divided from SFV‘s obnoxious “Win the right to purchase” routine.

Regardless, it’s great to see the classic duds in action. One more exciting element for this red-hot-looking release.
