Call of Duty maker Activision really, really wants you to know how badly it’s trying to disrupt cheaters ahead of Modern Warfare 4.

The publisher has spent a good amount of time (and assumedly budget) going after cheat-makers at the source, but also developing different ways from stopping incessant hackers from ruining fair matches. The latest development is called “Server Culling,” and it’s taking aim at wallhackers who suck at the game so bad that they need to see their foes through walls to have a chance at winning a gun fight.

Wallhacks allow players to see others through walls, giving them an unfair advantage. But that only happens because “traditional multiplayer design sends location data to each player’s hardware to run the match, giving wallhacks information they can use,” according to Activision.

“Server Culling uses a custom-built visibility system woven into each map to withhold hidden opponents’ position, making wallhacks far less effective,” the company said, and the technique also “works alongside other RICOCHET Anti-Cheat systems.” Activision says Server Culling will cover every MW4 launch map, DMZ, and Combat Outpost, plus season one updates across all modes.

These anti-cheat updates have been plentiful over the past couple of months, with Activision going so far as to post videos of its lawyers serving papers to cheat-makers at their own homes. I doubt these methods will stop cheaters entirely, but it is nice to see the lengths that CoD is going to lately to try and keep things fair for players who just want to hop online and shoot guns for a few hours with friends a couple nights out of the week.

Like any multiplayer game in 2026, hackers and cheaters are trying their damnedest to ruin the experience for others. Why? I really don’t know. I’m not sure what sort of gratification people get from cheating, cutting corners, or hacking to make the game basically play itself for you. But alas, they exist, and in droves. Thankfully, Activision is trying to fight it.
