Sega unleashes the Werehog in third Sonic Unleashed trailer

I sincerely apologize, but I simply couldn’t resist — there’s something primal inside me that just loves making bad puns. Anyway, Sega has sent over a brand-spanking-new trailer for Sonic Unleashed, and it’s the first time we’ve seen Sonic the Werehog in action since E3. The feral footage (check out the latter third for some brutal combos and howling) shows off Were-Sonic’s unique abilities, such as pulling himself up to a ledge using his Stretch Armstrong-like arms.

As for the rest of the video, I gleefully hummed along with the catchy and sprightly music — in fact, it’s stuck in my head. The music and the distinctive art direction are two of my favorite things about this game; I just hope that the gameplay holds up as well. I’m certainly excited about what Sonic’s bestial, Mr. Hyde-like persona can do, especially since his design isn’t really conducive to the 3D Sonic trope of “hold right/up to win.” Hell, I think I like the Werehog sections better than the standard Sonic sections…

Man, I hope this game is good. We’ll know in a few months; Sonic Unleashed will be out for the PS3, 360, Wii, and PS2 this holiday season.
