Rumor: Internet Explorer finally coming to Xbox 360

Recommended Videos

Sources have indicated to The Verge that Microsoft plans to bring a modified version of Internet Explorer 9 to the Xbox 360 that will go beyond the capabilities of the console’s Bing voice search. We’re talking full browser support here, folks! Please contain your enthusiasm.

Unsurprisingly, motion and voice control are said to be supported by way of Kinect, though owning the device will not be required for the browser. The sources didn’t have a release window yet, but it seems plausible that we’ll hear more during E3 next month.

There was a time when I would have cared about such an addition to the Xbox 360, but it has long since passed. Frankly, for a system so geared toward entertainment as a whole and not simply gaming, it’s unusual that this wasn’t done years ago.
