Resident Evil: The Mercenaries lets you move and shoot

Recommended Videos

This is the worst news I’ve read in a while.

There isn’t much that separates the Resident Evil series from other third-person shooters these days. The one thing the series held true to over the years was its tank controls and “you can’t shoot and walk” routine. Non-fans of the games have complained about the series’ old-school sensibilities for a while now, and it looks like Capcom has finally given in to their whining.

In Resident Evil: Mercenaries for the 3DS, you’ll be able to move and shoot. Personally, I won’t do it, not unless the game becomes unplayable to play it that way. The way the Resident Evil series forces you to play keep away with your enemies is easily my favorite thing about it. Underneath all the spooky atmosphere and scripted scares, the need to run from your enemies so that you can shoot them from a safe distance is the one thing that kept the series scary. Without that, I’m honestly not that interested in playing it anymore.

Or am I being too harsh?
