Pokemon GO had a hugely successful August, raking in $176 million in profit

And without crowds of people storming parks

While Pokémon GO may have fallen out of the mainstream media’s attention, that’s certainly not a commentary on its ongoing success. In fact, Niantic’s monster-catching AR title celebrated its most financially successful month since launch in August, raking in a whopping $176 million USD in profit.

Summer is typically Pokémon GO’s best-performing season, as the schools close and people get out and about in the nice weather. August 2019 was no different, with this profit margin matched only by that of the handheld game’s launch period, a time which brought about wild videos of players storming areas en masse, along with its own share of accidents and controversies.

As for this month, Pokémon GO just released new critters from the Unova region, so players can jump in right now for a chance to bag pokémon such as Tepig, Purrloin, Lilipup and Klink. Now pushing well into its 23rd year, Pokémon may not seem quite as loud and inescapable a brand as it was in its earlier iteration, but clearly the brand is rock solid, and will remain so for years to come.

Pokémon GO is available now on iOS and Android devices.
