Phil Spencer: Xbox One getting keyboard, mouse support in coming ‘months’

Claims it’s not too far away

Speaking to PCGamesN, Phil Spencer has responded to the age old question of “will they or won’t they” for mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One. For the past year or so, Spencer has maintained that we will get it at some point. Now, he finally has some sort of timeline in mind.

Spencer amusingly mentions his past trumpeting of the feature in his response, stating: “I keep talking about it in the press and my platform team keeps shaking their head, because they… Truthfully in our dev kit modes now keyboard works, mouse support is a little bit further away. I say it because I know it’s not years away, it’s more like months away, but we don’t have an exact date yet.”

So there you have it. Keyboard support is a done deal, they’re just waiting to wrap up mouse support before pulling the trigger. Of course, just like past consoles that feature the peripherals, it will be up to the developer to actually implement functionality — so don’t expect every FPS creator out there to just unlock the ability to out-turn and out-gun your opponents.
