Palworld’s 1.0 has quickly become the highest-rated Steam game of 2026, proving there might just be no ceiling to indie games as of late, but especially to the little Pokémon-like that became a juggernaut.
Pocketpair’s John “Bucky” Buckley has recently taken to Twitter to acknowledge yet another milestone for the Pokémon-inspired title. “Somehow… Palworld is apparently the highest-reviewed game of the year on Steam according to Steam250!”
The developers at Pocketpair are just as surprised as everyone else, but they shouldn’t be, as Palworld seems unconstrained by the limits of our reality. Palworld quickly rose among the ranks of Steam titles like no other upon its original release back in 2024. It never really fell off, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, as the absurdly long list of 1.0 features makes it the best it has ever been.
On top of being 2026’s most-praised title on Steam, Palworld 1.0 is casually sitting above many of Steam’s hardest-hitting releases of all time, currently sitting as the 23rd most-played game globally with over 65,000 concurrent players.

Before its release, few believed Pocketpair’s Palworld would do much, with many even suspecting it would prove nothing more than a scam similar to The Day Before. Things changed as soon as Palworld became playable, proving itself not only very real but also capable of easily climbing Steam’s charts to the top. Its similarities with Pokémon drew the ire of Nintendo, which used its might to try to suppress the comparatively much smaller Pocketpair studio, but to no avail. Those achievements alone are more than most games can ever hope to accomplish, but Palworld has already earned yet another spectacular accolade. There might just be no stopping this one.
Bucky concluded, perhaps in jest, perhaps seriously, that we now just need to watch Palworld get completely ignored during the awards season, which is definitely a possibility, but not at all guaranteed. If there’s one thing everyone probably knows by now, it’s that it’s highly unwise to bet against Palworld.
