Nintendo patents emulation of handhelds for other devices

Nintendo got the go on a patent for the emulation of handheld game systems on other devices recently, though it was applied for back in late 2003. The patent was for emulating some Nintendo’s handhelds on devices with built-in displays, like phones and tablets, but also for things like displays in airplanes. The patent lists the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance as devices to be emulated on these “low-capability” platforms. Gross!

The patent could open the door for play of Nintendo’s titles on something other than a Nintendo device, as crazy as that sounds. Or, as Engadget points out, it could be for legal ass-covering in this crazy world of so many like devices and unwelcome emulation attempts.

Seatback airplane emulation is all fun and games until some asshole puts his seat back, jamming your Tetris session right into your nose.
