Nintendo announces 3DS release date and pricing

And here it is. After months of anticipation, we now know (almost) exactly how much longer we’re going to have to wait for the 3DS to be in our hot, little hands. At their press conference tonight, Nintendo has set a release date of February 26th for the release of the new handheld, with a more vague “March” release in Europe and North America.

As for pricing? Nintendo says the device will retail for ¥25000 (roughly $300 US). Yeowch. No information was offered on pricing elsewhere in the world, with Nintendo of Japan stating that the information will be disseminated by their regional offices in the days to come.

I hope it’s not $300 in North America, but it would not surprise me in the slightest. They seem to be packing a lot of features into the thing. Would you pay that much to get this sweetness all to yourself?
